More Nativity to make!

If you have a cardboard box you can make a stable!

As all of the above is home made and fairly cheap to make let your children play with it! If they are young you might want to take away the pipe cleaner first though.

Making a home made Nativity is just another way of celebrating the real Christmas story and keeping Jesus at the centre of the season. As you make it together talk about the story.

What to teach our children about Christmas….

  • It’s a true story
  • It happened a long time ago
  • God had promised to send Jesus as the Saviour
  • Angels aren’t the same as fairies! They are messengers from God
  • Jesus was a real baby
  • Jesus was God the Son

There is always truth for children to learn from the Bible. As you share the story take the time to explain why the first Christmas happened.

You could have a go at learning part of the bible together……

‘you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins’ Matthew 1:21

make your own nativity

This is a very easy Christmas craft to make as a family. You could make it all in one go or over a few weeks.

We always get out our Nativity set each Christmas – bought twenty years ago from The Early Learning Centre. It’s a great visual reminder of what Christmas is all about!

make your own Nativity

Mary, Joseph, the angel and the shepherd are made from paper plates. Here’s how…

cut a cheap paper plate in half
fold into three
Glue one of the thirds
fold and stick
you should be left with a triangle that can stand up
for each character add a round face, wool hair, clothes, wings for the angel and a pipe cleaner crook for the shepherd. Use what you have – enjoy colouring and sticking!
the manger is a paper party bag glued at the top with a handle shape cut out. Fill with shredded tissue paper and add Jesus. (This is not my idea – borrowed from pinterest). It is great for this activity because it stands up and you can balance the angel on top!

When you’ve made the characters use them to retell the story from Luke’s gospel.
